Reading List

Heroes live their lives in public, broadcasting their model to anyone who cares to look.
— Seth Godin

Here are some of the books and resources from artists, entrepreneurs, thought leaders and heroes that have informed my opinions and the way I look at the world.

I’ve marked them with different categories to help direct where you might find them the most useful - it’s certainly where it resonated with me.

MIND - change and/or examine your thinking

SOUL - gain more understanding and perspective on spirituality

ART - for artists, about art, by artists

BODY - relate how you feel in your body to the rest of your life.

HEART - consider and decipher what your emotions are telling you.

Plus CREATIVITY & BUSINESS

Danielle Laporte

Austin Kleon

Author / Artist of must-read books like Steal Like An Artist and Show Your Work!

Why I like him: Austin's emails consist of 10 things that caught his attention that week. They are far ranging and show a variety of interests. He also links directly to everything straight from his newsletter which makes for super easy reading.

Marie Forleo

Marie has this great program called B-School, which I took awhile ago - I still use what I learned there daily. She also creates kick-ass videos on Marie TV.

Why I like her: getting Marie's emails reminds me what I've learned from her over the years and keeps me up-to-date with what she's doing now. She's also a great example of someone who writes honest, useful and engaging copy.

Paul Jarvis

Paul is a new follow for me. He is someone who purposely keeps his business small and doesn't scale into something bigger. Talk about a counter-culture perspective.

Why I like him: Like Marie, he writes good copy. He's also open and honest and transparent about just about everything - which is so refreshing. Wondering how to do business, he's going to tell you exactly how!

CreativeLive

The brain child of Chase Jarvis and Craig Swanson, CreativeLive brings top notch topical classes for creatives taught by the best in the business.

Why I like them: Initially I signed up for CreativeLive to watch the 30 Days of Genius Interview series. Since then, I dip in every now and again when I need to refresh my skills at something or want to learn something new.

Artwork Archive

Not only is Artwork Archive a kick-ass archiving and inventory system for all of your artwork, they also send out a nice little newsletter.

Why I like them: Their newsletters are well laid out and get into useful info immediately. Pretty much every time I decide to read one and click through on one of the links, I'm glad I did.
